Charley Hoffman, aka Our Guy Charley is living the dream on golf’s biggest stage, and the entire Flash Global family could not be more proud. Charley posted a sizzling round of 7-under 65 at Augusta National, good for a four-shot lead after Thursday’s first round of the Masters.
“A little bit of luck, a little bit fortunate,” our guy Charley said after his round that included nine birdies, two early bogeys and six pars. How hot was he? He made birdie on eight of his last 13 holes. That included a string of five in a six-hole stretch starting at the par-3 12th. Yet it was the lone par in that stretch — at the par-5 13th— that was one of the most critical holes in his amazing round.
“The winds were swirling, and it took my second shot down into the creek. To make up-and-down from there, that was a real momentum-keeper,” he said. Long birdies on the next two holes, followed by two more and then a closing par left him alone in first place.
A “dream round,” Our Guy Charley told the media afterward, with the Flash logo in full view to the worldwide assembled press. “I put myself in spots to make putts. When you see the putts going in, it helps the belief process. I believe in myself. I’m in a good spot.”
Our Guy Charley, who ranked among the Masters leaders for 54 holes before finishing ninth in 2015, says he loves playing in the wind, especially at Augusta. “There’s just something about this place… I’m a visual person; Augusta fits my eye. I feel good here,” he said. “I’m very happy with the results of 7-umder and I am looking forward to the challenge of the next three days.”
The Flash family is too. Now’s the time to get onboard and support Our Guy Charley—we’re running a social media campaign to do just that, and everyone’s invited to jump on this bandwagon. Here’s how everyone can get behind #OurGuyCharley.
