Charley Hoffman, Flash Global’s favorite son golfer, knows a thing or two about perseverance. Sometimes you just have to ride out the storm. Such was the case for Our Guy Charley during Friday’s second round of the Masters.
Starting the day with a four-stroke cushion, he had it on cruise control — four pars and a bird in the opening five holes. Then trouble hit in the form of bogeys on five of the next six holes, bringing him back to the pack. But here’s the thing about Our Guy Charley: He doesn’t dwell on negativity, always works hard and never gives up. He went on a run that included six pars and another birdie — at No. 13 — that salvaged a round of 75, good enough to maintain a share of the lead heading into the weekend.
He and Sergio Garcia will tee off at noon EDT Saturday, marking the second time in three years Our Guy Charley will play in the final group on Saturday at Augusta National. Charley, who went on to finish ninth in 2015, says he’ll be in full attack mode.
“I’m going to keep the same mindset as I have the last two days,” Charley told the media after Friday’s round. “When I’m in position, I’m going to attack and try to make birdies. When I’m not, I’m going to try to just hopefully have a par putt at it.”
