Charley Hoffman’s Sights Set on Strong Finish, FedExCup Points

Last modified: September 7, 2016

Moving day at The Barclays was a bit of a challenge for our man Charley Hoffman.

Charley fired a 3-over par 74 on Saturday and now sits in a tie for 43rd, 10 shots behind front-runner Rickie Fowler. Charley’s round featured a lone birdie (at the par-4 second) and four bogeys, three of which came on the back nine of Bethpage State Park (Black).

But let’s keep a bit of perspective here as we finish this first week of the Flash Global-Charley Hoffman partnership. In the big picture of the FedExCup Playoffs, Charley’s in great shape. The top 100 golfers based on FedCharley-Brett-300x157ExCup Points after this tournament advance to next week’s Deutsche Bank Championship. Since he entered the playoffs at No. 33 in the season standings, you can bank on him playing in Boston next week.  And the week after in the BMW Championship, where the top 70 golfers will convene in Indianapolis.

The goal, of course, is to accumulate enough points to qualify among the top 30 for the TOUR Championship in Atlanta. Plenty of time for Charley to make that happen, especially with a strong finish at The Barclays on Sunday. Charley and playing partner Kevin Chappell tee off at 10:10 AM EDT. Catch all the final-round action on PGA TOUR Live (8:20 a.m. – 6 p.m.), Golf Channel (noon-1:30) and CBS (2-6).
