Charley Hoffman, aka OurGuyCharley, once again flirted with making a major breakthrough over the weekend, finishing eighth at the US Open in Erin Hills, Wisconsin.
Charley put together rounds of 70-70-68-71 to finish at 9-under-par 279, seven shots behind the winner, Brooks Koepka. OurGuyCharley, now in his second season with Flash as a sponsor, hung with golf’s best throughout the tourney and was closer than meets the eye to capturing his first major title.
Consider that he birdied five of his first eight holes on Saturday to grab a one-shot lead but ran into trouble on the back side and carded three bogeys. The only blemish on his Sunday round was a triple-bogey 7 at the par-4 eighth hole. If he had made a par there, he would have finished in a tie for second.
Still, he recovered with two more birdies over the final ten holes to post a career-best finish at a US Open.
Remember, too, that Charley and Flash had a strong showing at the Masters in April, setting the early pace with an opening round of 65 and hanging with the leaders throughout the weekend before finishing 22nd.
It’s only a matter of time before OurGuyCharley gets his first major triumph!
